D+H has a long and proud history with the United Way. We believe that their reach and impact on communities across North America provides us with an opportunity to effectively make a difference in the lives of as many people as possible. Each year, D+H runs a fundraising campaign and supports the United Way through corporate and employee donations and various themed events.
D+H provides relevant and innovative solutions that meets the evolving needs of our customers. We are now pleased to be able to bring that approach to our community support as well.
In 2013, D+H announced that we were donating $250,000 to Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI) to support the institute’s Summer Student Research Program. The program is designed to attract outstanding university students into postgraduate careers with a “first of its kind” research program sponsorship at Sunnybrook.
CEO Gerrard Schmid shared his thoughts when announcing the program: “We are honoured to be partnering with Sunnybrook Research Institute to help students who want to become the innovators and researchers of the future.”
He added: “Innovation is at the root of D+H’s own success as a company, so it’s a great fit for us to support a program that gives an early start to promising young scientists and may help spawn some of their ideas and innovations.”

The donation will in part fund the D+H SRI Summer Studentship Awards, which have been designed to assist promising young scientists who are considering becoming postdoctoral researchers. Students funded under the program will be awarded $3,200, receive an orientation and attend a summer student seminar series at the Institute to gain exposure to a variety of research areas and topics, while having the opportunity to interact with scientists and other students. They also participate in SRI’s Best Summer Research Project competition, along with other research summer students hired through Sunnybrook’s research administration.
At D+H, we recognize our environmental responsibilities and as our organization continues to grow and evolve, we work hard to find ways to reduce our carbon footprint and increase the positive impact we have on the environment. One prime example is our Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) certification from the Rainforest Alliance. This certification ensures that our Canadian cheque products use paper products produced from well managed forests and responsible sources. In addition, all of our personal cheques are environmentally friendly, using vegetable-based inks.
In Orlando, Florida, the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies has one of the most experienced labor and delivery units in the nation, and is home to one of the largest and most successful neonatal intensive care units in the United States. For years, D+H has hosted an annual charity golf tournament at the renowned Arnold Palmer Bay Hill Golf Club in Orlando to raise money for the hospital. D+H employees and clients participate, and working in conjunction with the Arnold Palmer Medical Center Foundation, we donate 100 percent of the proceeds to this wonderful facility.
Each year during the holiday season, D+H offices across the U.S. and Canada collect food items, toys and monetary donations to support various local charities.
In the U.S., D+H is proud to support the Wounded Warrior Project whose mission is to raise awareness and provide aid to service members who have been injured during their tour of duty. Each year, D+H employees forgo exchanging gifts with one another during the holiday season and donate the money they would have spent on purchasing presents to the Wounded Warrior Project.
